The Dots

The Dots - Nerine Skinner

As seen on Britain’s Got Talent but where did we come from?

In 2018 I was performing in panto at the Salisbury Playhouse and met Helen Colby, who had a singing trio, The Dots. Initially I came on board as another set of eyes, however Helen was always running around trying to find understudies and covers for the group at last minute, as performers would often get contracts in The West End or tours, so I soon became a part of the act, alongside Macey Cherrett. The opportunity came up to pitch a 10 minute act for cruise ships as a comedy act. I came up with the concept of basing it on this truth of needing to find last minute performers and how that might affect the show. Together, Macey, Helen and I devised a whole new comedy cabaret act using genuine events that had happened to us while performing, such as a skirt falling off and being caught on stage in our pants… true story! From there, we created a show for Edinburgh in 2019 and came 13th in ‘The List’ publication’s most rated shows of the festival, got an outstanding award from Fringe Review and received 5 star reviews.

 Britain’s Got Talent

In 2022, us Dots have had the amazing opportunity to perform on Britain’s Got Talent. This has taken us to another level, as the characters we initially created needed to be enhanced even further, therefore we made up names for them and backstories. Helen became Amanda, Macey became Rosé (don’t forget the accent!) and I became Kathy. Interesting fact… they’re our middle names!

We had a great reaction and even managed to fool Simon Cowell! We were lucky enough to be invited back to perform in the Live Semi-Finals. Unfortunately we didn’t get through to the final but had a great time in the process!
